With a focus on the health, seniors’ housing and education sectors, some of
Oliver’s recent planning and design projects include the $24 million Baker Centre
Retirement and Long Term Care Addition and Renovation, Durham College’s $40
million Centre for Collaborative Education, and UOIT’s $39 million New Student
and Academic Building. Oliver’s work is founded in a desire to obtain a deep
understanding of programmatic and cultural nuances of his projects. Before
starting Architecture Counsel, Oliver served as Senior Planner for Educational
Consulting Services (ECS) and in private practice as Project Architect for largescale
infrastructure projects in across Canada. He has specific expertise in
adapting existing and heritage buildings to serve new functions and sat on the
Board of The Architectural Conservancy of Ontario and the Society for College
and University Planners. Oliver also takes particular interest in aging in place as
well as the relationship between social, informal and formal academic spaces
and how pedagogy and new technologies can inform the design and planning of
university and college buildings.
